The
Oxford Gliding Club is a civilian club, with about 120 members.
We operate every weekend throughout the year (including Bank Holidays)
and for two weeks during August.
To
find out more, take a look at the following pages:
The
airfield is located close to the picturesque village of Weston on
the Green and is believed to be one of the largest grass airfields
in the country.
We
are within easy reach of the M40, being
about 2 miles from Junction 9 (the Oxford/Bicester junction).
The
area provides good soaring conditions and the unrestricted airspace
up to 8,500 feet provides good opportunities for cross country flights.
**
Eco-Town Threat **
The
goverment have included the Weston-Otmoor "eco-town" proposal
on their short list of fifteen. If approved, this new town would
swallow up 2,046 acres of Oxfordshire countryside and replace it
with up to 15,000 new properties. Weston on the Green airfield,
a grass airfield in continuous use since July 1918 would also disappear.
